Browns Point Playfield, a Park Worth Waiting for in NE Tacoma

Last week I went to Browns Point Park not expecting a whole lot. Mainly, it was just convenient. It seems like the proposed renovations were either on hold, or just being done sporadically. But I had a pleasant surprise two weekends ago. After months of being under renovation and patiently waiting, the park and playground is complete.
My toddler was happy, anyway, just to be there. The grass is so green, laid out large. For months we had to remind the kids that the fence around the playground was a protection during renovation, now, we can let them loose. The older kids weren’t quite raving as I was about the swings with bucket seats. Instead, they were gravitating towards the high monkey bars and tall climbers that take you straight up to the tunnel slide. My personal favorite is the new spiral slide. Baby had dragged and begged me to go with her, and it is FAST. Wow, not what I was expecting at all, so I am proud to admit I went down it eight times. Baby enjoyed the twin slides that are side-by-side because she loves a slide race. We just cracked up laughing each time she went down because her hair got static-y and stuck straight out like a cartoon!
A fabulous idea was given to me by the daddy of Baby’s friend…kites! When he said he brought a kite to try out, I was expecting the simpler dollar store kind. But, instead he revealed this large, 3-stringed kite, with handles. He said that they just came from the Browns Point Lighthouse but this park had more wind. I am inspired, but I may start out with a cheaper one, you know, just for a novice experience.
I am excited about other features that were renovated. Last week I watched the tennis courts, basketball court, and softball field being redone, so those are brand spanking new. Usually I would see this park as a way to tire out the kids. But, that new tennis court is calling out to me. This could actually be the fun and motivating activity I need to lose my baby fat. This park also has modest parking lot and a port-a-potty, but seems like it has all the basic necessities on my checklist. We had so much fun that afternoon, it was definitely a park worth waiting for.
